Journal
Encouragement for choosing joy, one morning at a time.
What It Means to Choose Joy (Even on Hard Mornings)
Some mornings, joy feels like a stretch. The to-do list is long, the coffee is lukewarm, and choosing joy sounds like something people with easier lives say.
But here’s what I’ve learned: joy was never about the circumstances. It’s about the choice — made fresh every morning — to believe that this day, exactly as it is, was made by God and is worth rejoicing in.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24
5 Simple Ways to Start a Morning Devotional Habit
Everyone wants a morning devotional habit. Almost no one wants to wake up an hour earlier to get it. Good news: you don’t have to.
1. Start with ten minutes. Set a timer. Ten honest minutes beat an hour you never start.
2. Keep your journal where the coffee is. Habit sticks when the trigger is obvious. Coffee brews, journal opens.
3. Write one grateful line. Not a list. One line, specific and real. “The way the light came through the kitchen window” counts.
The Prayer Journal Method That Actually Stuck
I’ve started — and abandoned — more prayer journals than I can count. Pretty covers, blank pages, good intentions, zero follow-through.
What finally worked wasn’t a fancier journal. It was a simpler page. Every morning, same four prompts:
Thank You — one specific gratitude.
Please — one honest request.
For Them — one person I’m praying for today.
Amen — one line on what I’m trusting God with.
Four lines. Two minutes. Done before the coffee cools. The secret was never the journal — it was making the page so simple there was no excuse to skip it.
